P. Scott McGee joined the firm in 2021 and is a principal of the firm.  Scott engages in general litigation with substantial experience in civil, family, personal injury and criminal defense litigation.  Scott has a statewide practice in representing licensed professionals from all fields in proceedings before licensing and disciplinary boards.

Scott is a frequent lecturer on ethics and professionalism at legal education programs for lawyers. He is a past president of the Vermont Association for Justice, formerly the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association (2008-09), and of the Vermont State’s Attorneys Association (1978-79). He is past Chair of the Vermont Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules. He is past Vice-Chair of the Vermont Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Responsibility. Scott has served on the State Board of Mental Health, the Vermont Council on the Humanities, and the State Governing Board of Common Cause Vermont. He is past Chairman of the Board of the Laraway School, Inc. and is a past Chairman of the Board of The Family Place, a United Way agency in the Upper Valley. Scott was the first recipient of the Vermont Bar Association Distinguished Pro Bono Service award and received a Vermont Bar Association recognition award in 2016 for his work co-chairing the Vermont Access to Justice Campaign.  In 2017 he received a commendation from the National Legal Services Corporation for his service to low income Vermonters.

Scott was educated at the Loomis School (1965) and attended Denstone College, Staffordshire, England on an English Speaking Union Fellowship (1965-66). He graduated from Amherst College (B.A., cum laude, 1970) and Catholic University School of Law (J.D. 1975). He was admitted to practice in Vermont in 1975 and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1980. He served as Lamoille County State’s Attorney (1976-80) and was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Vermont (1980-84). He was previously a senior partner at the Norwich, Vermont law firm of Hershenson, Carter, Scott and McGee before its merger with the firm.

Scott is a member of the firm’s litigation group and practices primarily in the areas of Professional Discipline Defense in proceedings before the Office of Professional Regulation and in Bar disciplinary and Judicial Conduct Board proceedings.  He also has an active practice in Civil and Personal Injury Litigation,  Family Law and Criminal Defense. Scott is also an experienced Mediator with a state-wide Mediation practice.
