James W. Spink joined the firm in 2011 and is a principal of the firm. Mr. Spink is a seasoned trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience and has tried in excess of 125 cases to verdict. His areas of specialization include chemical exposure and complex tort claims, transportation cases and catastrophic personal injury claims.
Mr. Spink is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. He has been honored by SuperLawyers, Best Lawyers of America (2011 "Lawyer of the Year" - ADR - Burlington, Vermont) and Chambers USA. He is a member of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals and frequently offers presentations to the Bar on ADR topics.
Although he maintains an active litigation practice, Mr. Spink's professional activity currently is primarily devoted to mediations and arbitrations. He has performed approximately 1500 mediations, early neutral evaluations and evidentiary hearings at arbitration (both as a sole arbitrator and, typically, as the third or "neutral" arbitrator in a three member panel) over the years.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Spink was first an associate and later partner in a distinguished law firm in Burlington from 1980 to 2000. He was then a cofounder and principal of a small litigation firm in Burlington, Vermont from 2000 to 2010. We are pleased that Mr. Spink chose to join the firm following the appointment of two of his professional colleagues to cabinet level posts within the administration of Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin.
Mr. Spink is a graduate of Middlebury College (B.A. 1976, high honors) and Albany Law School (J.D. 1980).
